Description

In this lesson ss will listen to four people on how they go to work. They match expressions, underlines the correct words as they listen and speak how they go to school/ work using adverbs of frequency in groups.

Materials

Abc 1 activity sheets
Abc CD 2.9, Match the expressions to the pictures, underline the correct words,writing the place of work

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about Work and school in the context of Mode of transport

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Mode of transport., using adverb of frequency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show pictures of people going to work in a city on OHP and asks ss to elicit or pre-teach some vocabs. "go by car, go by bus, walk, cycle or go by bike, What are they doing? Where are they going? How are they going? T shows weather-related photos (rainy, windy, sunny and snowy) to elicit the word weather give clues like it starts with the letter "w". What do you think the weather is? which weather is good and which is bad. T shows some pictures of "village, town and city" to elicit the words "village, Town, and city. Is this a village? Is this a town? Is this in a city? T asks the ss to talk about how the ss go to work or school with their partner for a minute. Ask the ss to speak about their partner. Monitor and take FB

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T Ho a matching activity for the ss to work. 1.Activty (I) SS match and pair check. T gets WC FB. T shows a picture of 4 friends on OHP and introduces Donna, Olga, Ben and Emma. 3 ladies and 1 man. ( Show the number 4 people) T tells the ss they are talking about....... Lets listen to what they are saying.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows the activity sheet on the OHP and demonstrates by underlining. T HO fill in the blanks activity sheets to SS. T plays the recording and pauses after each speaker. T plays again for the ss to do the activity in case they have missed. The Ss pair check. Discuss with their partner. Then T takes WC FB by asking SS to mark on the WB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T demonstrates to the SS to write the answers for the question "where do they work?" T HO another activity sheet to fill. T plays the recording pausing after each speaker. SS write the answer while listening to the recording. If necessary play the recording again depending on the response from the SS. SS Pair check with the partner. T pastes the answer key on the wall. Let ss check.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-13 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T models to SS "How she goes to the Institute". I always go by Taxi. I Sometimes walk. I never take bus. T asks SS to speak or invite a strong ss to come and demonstrate. T pastes the activity sheet on the wall. T divides the class into 3 or 4 group. SS to speak in their group. let all the Ss to speak. Takes WC FB on how everyone of them come to work/school ----If there is time ....... T tries to check whether SS can say third- person forms. He/she usually goes to drives walks cycles
