Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about lottery in the context of media


Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I ask student "how many hours a day do you usually watch TV? students stand in line based on the most hours to the least hours then make them new groups.

Exposure (3-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students read quotes which were given to the press. They should decide who said them (a film star, the manager or a politician?) Students answer and then check their answer with their peers. answer key is shown on the board.

Highlighting (5-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students are asked to summarize the quotes with new verb as an examples provided for them.They should summarize the quotes with verbs provided for them on the right side of their paper. as a concept check,they are asked what tense they should use. checking their answers with other groups. for feedback,I ask them answer the questions(table by table) .

Clarification (12-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In the clarifying stage,meaning,form and pronunciation of all highlighted words are clarified. by using concept check and elicitation,i''ll review and clarify all the verbs.

Controlled Practice (7-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

ask student about lottery in Istanbul. To show students the title of the text and the picture and ask them a question about it. ask them to read the text quickly and answer the questions.the teacher emphasize to ignore the gaps in the reading,just answer the questions. students check their answers with their peers. answer key is shown on the board. teacher ask students in pairs to fill the gaps with the correct form.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students rewrite the quotes from the characters in the story. In groups, students summarize the quotes. they should check their answers with their peers. in order to change the class interaction, I answer the questions with the help of students.
