Description

In this lesson, students develop their listening focused receptive skills and learn vocabulary in the context of London. They will learn some basic adjectives concerning London and get into pairs to compare their answers with one another. The lesson starts with teacher asking students to look at pictures of London. This is followed by adjective exercise and some true/false sentences about Annalisa. Students will be also asked to complete the questions about Annalisa. Finally teacher provides feedback on students' language use and elicits the photos in Annalisa's blog.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Photos Of London) (4-8 minutes) • To introduce the lesson through the pictures of London, elicit which places they already know and other famous places in London that they know.

Teacher asks students to look at pictures of London and finds out if any of the learners has ever been to London. Students are expected to tell their experiences as to London and write down three things what they know or feel about London. Pairs compare their answers with other pairs. Teacher monitors and provides whole class feedback afterwards.

Stage 2 (Handout-Famous Places In London) (4-8 minutes) • To elicit how much students know about London and introduce famous places in London

Teacher gives handouts, gets the students into pairs and asks them to match the pictures with the names written on the board. Teacher monitors and provides whole class feedback afterwards. Teacher asks the following questions: Did you see these places before, on TV, magazine? Which place do you want to visit?

Stage 3 (Adjectives) (4-8 minutes) • To provide new vocabulary in the context of London, get them into pairs to complete the sentences with suitable adjectives and compare their answer with other pairs.

Teacher asks students to complete exercise 2 in pairs. Teacher monitors and provides whole class feedback afterwards.

Stage 4 (Annalisa's Blog) (4-8 minutes) • To develop listening focused receptive skills and provide a listening exercise for specific informations from Annalisa's blog

Teacher introduces Annalisa from picture (bottom p. 10, right) Teacher elicits/pre-teaches " the underground" (in London) using illustration or drawing. Students are asked to run through the sentences in 3. Teacher asks students to listen(twice) and complete gaps in statements. Students compare answers in groups, teacher monitors and provides WC feedback.

Stage 5 (Questions) (4-8 minutes) • To practice listening and reading skills and provide a freer exercise in the context of Annalisa's blog

Teacher asks students to read three passages in quiet. Students are expected to answer following questions. Is Annalisa from Italy? Where is she? Why is Annalisa in London? What is her teacher's name? Does she like coffee? Students are then asked to produce other questions about Annalisa, using pictures as prompts. (In pairs) Teacher then asks students to listen and complete exercise 4. After they finish exercise 4, students ask and answer questions about Annalisa, while mingling. Teacher monitors and provides feedback on students' language use afterwards.

Stage 6 (Photos In Annalisa's Blog) (3-5 minutes) • To provide a controlled speaking exercise and involve each of the learners in conversation

Teacher asks students to look at the photos in Annalisa's blog. What/Who can you see? Additional Questions: Do you have a blog? Do you love travelling? Have you ever travelled before? Teacher asks students to tell their overseas experiences and creates a controlled speaking atmosphere.
