Description

In this lesson students will read a text about someones dream house and will discuss it and their dream place to live in

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about paradise ridge in the context of dream accommodation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a group work in the context of dream home

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will write "where you live" and then will show some pictures and elicits the words.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The handouts with ex 1 will be given to the Ss and they will have some time to do it individually and then they will discuss it in pairs and there will be WCFB. Then the teacher will ask the Ss to think and make a list of advantages and disadvantages of where they live and then they discuss it in pairs and will be followed by a feedback. Then the teacher tasks if they would like to live anywhere else and why? and will get a few ideas. Pre-teaching Vocabulary: in this part "Stay for good", "problems are shared", "vote" and "community" seem to be worth pre-teaching. This will be done in the context of a short story about the time I went backpacking with my friends and decided to stay for good in a village.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Gist reading: Ss will receive five sentences and the text. The sentences will be the first sentences of each paragraph and students will have some time to match the sentences with paragraphs by quickly going through them in groups. The teacher will write the number of paragraphs on the board and Some Ss will go and write the answers on the board. Problematic ones will be discussed in class. Detailed reading: ex 1 and ex 2 of reading will be given to the Ss and they will be asked to read the text completely this time and answer the questions. Then they will check their answers in pairs.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

As a post teaching activity the teacher will write the words " region, spectacular scenery, short break, lock, founded, facilities, ownership, shortage" on the board and will ask the students to scan the text and underline these words, and think about their meaning. Then They will be divided into two groups and during a rush to the board activity the Ss will hear the meaning or definition of a word and have to run and choose the words. The teacher will then give them the answer key.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will discuss the disadvantages of living in Paradise Ridge in groups. after a couple of minutes a person form each group will go to the board and writes some of them. Then the disadvantages will be discussed with students. listening will be played and students will listen to different people and check if they mentioned the things they said or not.
