Description

This lesson starts with a listening task which aims to set the third character, David, who had a memorable night, of the lesson which has already been started by Khatereh.The listening task will be used to maximize the listening comprehension ability. what follows is a vocabulary task for which the model sentences are taken from a reading text that they had before. the answers will be used to focus learners attention on collocations (have, get, go). in order to practice more, another controlled vocabulary practice will be used. then the Ss will have a semi-controlled practice of the vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about David, a spanish person, in the context of memorable night

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-have the projector ready to project PowerPoint file - show the picture and set the character, David say: you learned about Maria and Mehmet. now we want to know about David, from Spain -ask: where was he? why was it a memorable night for David? -elicit answers but do not accept or reject suggestions - say: listen and find answers to these two question. then check your answers with your partner - say: here we have 9 sentences about David but they are wrong listen and correct the sentences -play the file - say: now check your answers in your group -project the sentences on the board -elicit answers

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-put Ss in new groups -elicit the simple past form of 'get, have, go' -project two model sentences, with blanks, taken from the listening - ask Ss to fill in with 'got, had, went' -elicit answers

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- say: now we want to do another similar exercise go back to Mehmet's answers and read them quickly then complete these sentences with 'got, went, had' in your group -elicit answers - highlight the collocations

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- project the last slide of the PowerPoint in order to model the task - elicit answers for matching collocations -clarify the collocations - show the HO -and say: now you do the same match 'go, have, get' with the list and then with pictures - after completing the task - say: let's listen and check your answers - play again and practice pronunciation

Controlled Practice (2-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-MODEL THE TASK: pick up your papers go around the class ask questions from different persons

Free Practice (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Choose 5 collocations write 5 questions then practice with your partner -ask Ss to role out and give FB
