Description

In this lesson students will read and talk about getting together 21st century style and some vocabulary related to get together subject. The lesson starts with a discussion about different ways people get together. This is followed by a reading, vocabulary check, discussion and again vocabulary. The concept remains the same through the class. This lesson contains semi controlled, controlled and free practices.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a getting together concept, learning new Vocab regarding the same subject.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ask " I'm new but do you know everyone here? what is his/her name? where did you first meet him/her? continue with such questions to get their attention. As a class they have to come up with a list they will ask sb if they want to know him/her better. then in pairs they ask and answer the questions. finally they decide who's answer were more interesting. I have some questions am gonna suggest.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

read the article, scan it. find the words in bold in your pairs match them with the right definition. check the answers as a class.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

do the next exercise. there some words in bold, ss just checked their meaning. At this stage they have to answer to 9 questions in groups of 3.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

in this part ss will answer in groups of 3 to these questions: which of these ways of meeting people would you try? 1. which appeals to you least? why? 2. is there anyone that you would like to get in touch with via a website like Friends Reunited? I do the delayed error correction at the end. the "To provide feedback on students' production and use of language" will be done briefly in this part.

Vocab (10-20 minutes) • Vocab (sub-aim)

start with when you go to a cafe you see people in there, whey do you think they are there? how they are related? to elicit boyfriend girlfriend, a date and etc. the A and B columns will be presented and ss have to match them in pairs. answers will be checked as a class. they will be given the answers. ss will be asked to make sentences with what they just lernt (the words from columns B & A) to elicit go on a blind date and etc. in the next slide they will put the right words under the right verb: have, make and... the answers will be given to the ss. this will be done in groups of 3 or in pairs. if there is enough time in groups ss will answer these questions: choose a memorable get together that you have been to and describe it to your friends, try and give details about the followings: why, when and where it was held who was there why it was so memorable
