Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about driinking tea in the context of different cultures

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a short text in the context of drinking tea in their country

Procedure

pre-reading (5-7 minutes) • to set the context and pre-teach some vocabulary

I will start by writing three questions on the board. "Do you like coffee or tea?" and "How much tea or coffee do you drink a day?" and "are people from other countries the same or different?". I will put the students in pairs and have them discuss the questions and then we will have a whole class feedback. I project the pictures in the board and try to elicit some vocabulary and teach some other words as pre-teaching vocabukary step to make sure they will understand the text

While-reading (8-10 minutes) • to have students read for gist and details

I will give them the handouts and I will ask them to have a quick look at the text and find which countries are mentioned and then match each country with the picture. They will check their answers in pairs followed by a WHFB(gist reading) In this part of the lesson as a reading for details activity I will have them read the text carefully and do exercise 2b. The naswers will be checked in pairs followed by a whole class feedback.

post-reading (15-20 minutes) • To combine the receptive skill of reading with some production of the language

I will give the students some blank sheets of paper and will ask them to write 4 sentences each, using the sentences in the text. I will model the activity by writing one paragraph about myself on the board : I like tea . I drink it in a cup . I usually drink it with sugar and I like it weak. I drink tea at home and in cafes. will have them read my sentences and then I will erase the board and write some clues. Then they will have some time to write about themselves. during this process I monitor them actively and will help them and make corrections. I will collect the papers and will give them back to different students randomly. They will be given some time to read them. As they have recently practiced questions with Gloria I will give them a model of the questions they are supposed to ask. Then ask them to mingle around the class and meet different people and find whose paper they are holding and will ask them to write their names in the paper. As a feedback after they sit down I will ask them to say something about drinking habits of the owner of the paper.

Stage 4 (if-time) (15-17 minutes) • Teaching the differences between "and" and "but"

i will write two examples on the board. and together we will try to decide if I need to use and or but. I will give them the handouts and they will read the sentences and and fill in the gaps individually. They will check their answers in pairs and we will have a WHFB. They will do activity 2. and check the answers in pairs They will do activity 3 as a freer practice
