Main Aims

  • To provide writing practice of describing appearance .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write word (appearance) on the board ,ask them to guess the meaning, then ask them what's the difference between appearance and character? to be sure that they understand the word.

Exposure (5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Tell Ss to look at photos of four people for one minute,remember the people and their clothes. -Tell them to work in pairs ,close their books,and say what the people are wearing.

Highlighting (5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask students to work in pairs.Tick the words ,tick the words they know. Tell them to check the new words in page 142.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning of hard words to the students,then drill these words,finally write the words on the WB with its form. Meaning+ Form: young:(adjective) having lived or existed for only a short time. Old:(adjective) having lived or existed for long time. are not yet old. Fat=overweight:(adjective) having a lot of flesh on the body. Middle-aged:(adjective)when you are no longer young ,but Thin:(adjective) with little flesh on the bones. Slim:(adjective) attractively thin. Beautiful=good looking=attractive:(adjective) Bald: (adjective) with little or no hair on the head. Asian:(adjective)belonging or relating to Asia or its people. Beard: (noun[c]) the hair that some men allow to grow on the lower part of their face. Moustache : (noun[c]) hair that a man grows above his upper lip. Fair hair : (adjective) golden hair. Pronunciation: Young /jʌŋ/ Old /oʊld/ Middle-aged /ˌmɪd.əl ˈeɪdʒ/ Overweight /ˌoʊ.vɚˈweɪt/ Slim /slɪm/ Bald /bɑːld/ Asian /ˈeɪ.ʒən/ Beard /bɪrd/ Moustache /ˈmʌs.tæʃ/

Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide practice of the TL,using the same /similar situation

1-Ask Ss to write a description of one person in photos 1-4 without writing his/her name. 2-Tell them to work in pairs ,and read each other's writing to guess who is it?Are there any mistakes? If I have time I'll choose anyone of the students to read his description to the whole class to guess who is it?

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To praise good use of TL.To correct errors in TL use

During the discussion of the Ss I'll take notes of errors;in this phase I give feedback and writes them on the board . I ask them to correct errors,if they cannot I'll correct them.
