Description

In this lesson ss will learn about the definite and indefinite articles and determiners through guided discovery based on some sentences in the context of shopping and shoppers.Lesson shape is test-teach-test to diagnose ss's knowledge of articles, it is followed by language clarification (MFP), then the 2nd test is given to provide them with controlled practice. for freer oral practice, ss will work in pairs.

Materials

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of shopping and shoppers

Procedure

movie (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show ss a part of a movie about shopping ,ask ss: where is he? what is he doing? what items can you see on the shelves?

Test #1 (3-6 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

tell the ss to choose the correct words and then give them the correct answers

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1- write 5 sentences containing a/an/some/any/the on the WB 2- To clarify meaning and use, give the ss a gap-fill task to figure out the rules. 3- Give them another task for checking form. 4- Drill the words for pronunciation and mark stress.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

5- give ss 2nd test. Give them the keys. Ask them to compare the first and second test.

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

give ss a word-picture task,ask them to follow the instruction and do the task as controlled practice. For free practice,tell ss to work in pairs to discuss this topic::: what items did you buy the last time you went shopping?
