Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about the Present Perfect Tense questions through guided discovery based on a listening text about the musical experiences. • The lesson will start with a whole class discussion. Students will look at some concert photos and will be asked which one they would like to go. • Then they will listen to the recording and write the names of the speakers to the correct sentences. • Then will be given a worksheet about present perfect tense and they will figure out the meaning, form and pronunciation. • Then they will have a controlled and freer practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of present perfect tens- questions in the context of musical experiences

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about musical experiences in the context of concerts

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets the students. She shows them some photos from different concerts and asks them which one they would like to go.

Exposure & Highlighting (9-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation and to draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher tells students that they will listen to a dialogue between two people and they will try to figure out what kind of music they like. Then the teacher gives the students a handout and wants students to listen to the beginning of the conversation and wants students to pick the correct verb forms. Then they will check the answers in pairs.

Clarification (9-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher gives the students a guided discovery handout and wants student to fill out the tasks by looking at the examples in the listening activity. They will work on the handout individually and they will have 5 minutes to finish the task. When they finish, they will check their answers with their pairs and when they finish checking their answers, the teacher will give them the answer key of the handout.

Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher gives the students a gapfill activity. The students will try to fill in the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in present perfect tense. They will have 3 minutes to finish the activity and when they finish they will check the answers with the teacher.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The students will work in groups of four. Teacher gives students scrambled words and wants students to put them in order and form questions in present perfect tense and stick them on the board. They have 5 questions They have 4 minutes to build the questions. Teacher will give the students correct form of the questions and they will check each other's questions.

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups of four, they will ask the questions that they've built in the previous task each other. The teacher will give feedback on the language when they finish their task.
