Description

The main aim in this lesson will be to improve the Ss reading skills and further their detail comprehension. Students will practice reading for gist. They will learn new vocabulary which will be elicited to them.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about places in London in the context of weather and season

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of weather

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Showing a picture of London. Asking: "Where is this place?" and "Do you want to visit London?" And next asking: "How is the weather today?"

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Showing the pictures in the book. - Asking: "How is the weather in the first picture?" and "What are they doing?" Drawing attention to season and place - Ss discuss the difference in pairs - Eliciting the difference between the pictures. - Feedback by writing related words on board - introducing related Vocabulary. ( ice-skating, open-air, museum)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Regroup students - Give instruction to choose the right heading for each paragraph. - Let students read the text - Let students pair check - Ask the answers, give answer key on board

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Let the Ss read the questions "Where can you....?" - Elicit the meaning of the questions. - Ask them to fill in the gap with the correct place - Let students pair check - Give answer key.

While-Reading 3 (8-10 minutes) • Match Vocabulary

- Give instructions on matching vocabulary - Distribute Words and pictures to each group - Let students match in groups - Peer check by checking other groups - Give answer key on board - Concept check meaning of vocabulary

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Distribute questions ex 2c - Students work in groups - Check exercise by nominating
