In this lesson students will be engaged in reading comprehension about 4 celebrities who were X Factor Winners, this receptive skill developed by reading for the gist ,matching task with pictures / definitions to learn new lexical items and detailed specific information by true false statement,and then after aims completed,work on speaking productive skill (personalization)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about X Factor Winners in the context of celebrity
  • To provide Ss with practice in reading specific information and to deduce meaning of topic related vocabulary from X Factor Winners text

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking for fluency

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

have a flashback to what Tom taught -you have already found out about X Factor Audition -showing Andy Warhol quote on the board,asking them to discuss what you think it means and whether you think it is true.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

think about where they are, think about whther they are famous watch a short part of x factor final. pay attention to names. playing then pausing then asking where he is now. keep going with four singers

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

setting task :as you are now familiar with 4 singers I want you to read quickly through the text and see where they are, are they famous? after some time limit maybe 2 minutes peer checking then asking and eliciting where are singers now.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

look at the highlighted words and phrases, to read and guess the meaning . after some time showing them yellow paper and red ones and ask them to match definitions and pictures with highlighted phrases.They have some time to work with their pairs. after that asking question and eliciting to check student's understanding and word meaning. Handing out T/F statements ,asking them to read first through it then go through the text.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

personalize X factor programme by asking questions like do you have similar X factor programmes in your country? can you name some of the winners ? are they famous now?students work in their Group after some time asking those questions again
