Description

In this lesson, Ss will be introduced to trips and travel vocabulary. They will learn useful language in relation to travel and trips. Finally they will make presentations about 3 of the most popular travel destinations.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss and welcome them to the English class. T introduces himself by showing the students some pictures and important dates in his life and asks the students to discuss what they refer to. Feedback T asks one of the Ss to present himself and his classmates.

Exposure (20 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks

T shows the students objects (passport, flight ticket, luggage...) and asks them what they are used for ? Feedback T writes the questions (where did you last travel? / How did you travel?) on the board. Ss discuss in groups Feedback T draws a spider diagram on the board about means of transport. T allows students a few minutes to work together WCFD T draws another spider diagram on the board about airport vocabulary. T allows students a few minutes to work together WCFD T projects definitions of words related to travel on the board. T gives Ss cut-outs Students read the definitions and work together to stick the cut-outs in front of the right definitions. WCFD

Useful Language (20 minutes) • Clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T provides Ss with a gap fill activity and tell them that they are going to watch a video entitled ( at the airport) Ss watch and fill in the gaps T can replay the video if needed. Feedback T highlights the useful expression. Teacher provides the students with handouts about different situations ( passport control, airport check in desk) Ss work together to make conversation ( T will be monitoring) when Ss are ready they roleplay in front of the class.

Productive Tasks (30 minutes) • To provide opportunity for the students to practice the target language

Ss in groups have to do a presentation. They select a continent. They have to choose the 3 most popular cities in the continent. From that list of three they choose one to research and present on. T gives them some guidelines to get information online on: 1 General Info about city: Population, History and Geography. 2 The main places to visit. 3 The best food to eat. Ss plan and research for 20 minutes. T monitor and give them some language to help them. Three of them do one city. = 10 minutes Person 1 = General Info Person 2 = The Main Places to Visit Person 3 = The Best Food to Eat T gives feedback to each group.
