Description

This lesson ,Ss will be engaged in reading for skimming and summarizing their personal achievement. They will be involved in speaking for fluency, and they will be introduced to vocabulary which is related to personal achievements.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer (1-2 minutes) • To set on lesson context and engage the students

Engage Ss by asking them to look at the title and the pictures.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask Ss if they can guess what the people have achieved.

While-Reading #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Put Ss into groups of the 5( if the number do not add up, any close number of Ss will do). Give every student one of the paragraphs to read and in the same groups tell them to summarise that person's achievement to the other Ss. Ex.2, pg.52.

While-Reading #2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Tell Ss tp work individually to do ex.3, pg 52. If necessary, check the meaning of the words in bold. Once Ss have had enough time to answer, put them in pairs to compare and explain their opinions. Encourage Ss to give full sentence. Monitor and help if necessary.

Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the question in ex.4b to the whole class. Then, put the Ss in pairs to discuss. Encourage Ss to give opinions. Monitor and help if necessary. FB. Get Ss to do Ex.1 a-b and c from the WB. Hand out the answers for Ss to check.
