Description

In this lesson students will learn about invitations and suggestions through text-based presentation of language. The lesson starts with a short speaking and continues with listening.The main aim is functional language in which the students learn about gerund and infinitive verbs.

Materials

Main Aims

To provide clarification of language used for Gerund and infinitive in the context of Shall we go, Do you fancy going...

Subsidiary Aims

To provide specific information listening practice using a text about verbs with to and ing in the context of going out

Procedure (25-36 minutes)

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • to generate interest in the topic

The students will be asked 3 questions about where would they go or what would they do

Listening Task (8-10 minutes) • To practice listening for gist and detail information

I am going to pre-teach a few words that they might not know. Next they will be given the worksheet and listen for the gist. After that they will listen for the second time for details . At the end of this part we will check the correct answers together

Highlighting target language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight the target language so that learners are focussed on it

I am going to explain gerund and infinitives and some specific verbs which are used for each. I am going to write some examples on the board and also practice giving answers .

Clarifying target language (5-8 minutes) • To clarify meaing, pronunciation and form so that learners know how to condtruct it

I am going to clarify the pronunciation and question form. In this stage the students will be given task 1 for functional language and they can practice and check the correct answers.

Language practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide controlled written practice focused on using the language accurately

In this stage students will be given task 2 .they should fill in the blanks with the correct verb form. It can be pair-work or solo
