Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T displays the image " giving directions" T: TELL ME ABOUT THE PICTURE? WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHAT DOES SHE HOLD? WHAT IS SHE ASKING THE MAN?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T: LOOK AT PAGE 54, PART 3 READ THE DIALOG T: DOES LEE KNOW THE TOWN?(NO) HE IS A .....?(STRANGER) DOES JACK KNOW THE TOWN?(YES) WHY DOES JACK KNOW THE TOWN?(HE LIVES THERE, HE IS LOCAL) WHAT DOES LEE ASK JACK?(HE IS ASKING THE DIRECTION TO GET TO THE ART MUSEUM)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T writes on the board: "Excuse me. How can I help you? How can I get to the art museum? Is it far from here? Turn left Turn left at at the intersection Turn right Cary on down High Street Go straight on The art museum is opposite the hospital, on the left. How long will it take? T: TURN LEFT, TURN RIGHT, GO STRAIGHT ON, CARRY ON DOWN. WHAT TYPE OF SENTENCES ARE THEY?(IMPERATIVES) DOWN, ON, OPPOSITE. WHAT ARE THEY?(PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE) EXCUSE ME, HOW CAN I GET TO THE ART MUSEUM? WHAT KIND OF SENTENCE IS IT? REQUEST? ORDER?(POLITE REQUEST)
