Description

In this lesson, the sts will learn about the auxiliary verb "did" to make questions in the past simple in the context of holiday in India. The sts will practice Yes/No questions and Wh- questions. T will show photos and elicit the questions in the past from the sts. In the speaking stage , The sts will interview about their last holiday and T will finish the lesson by giving error correction.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice using the auxiliary veb "did" to make question in the past simple in the context of " Holiday in India"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice with question forms ( Yes/No and Wh.- questions) of the past simple tense.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the sts four photos ( Cairo, Paris, London, Agra) Ask them which cities are they . Ask them " Did you visit Cairo? Yes, I did or No, I didnt." Ask these quesitons for each cities. Then elicit these questions and answers from the students and practice them

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text of Great India.

Show the map of India. Ask the sts what they know about India or Indian culture Ask them and Do you want to go to India " .Introduce a story about a holiday in India . Show the photos and tell them I went to India last year. Ask them " Did you go to India? . Elicit the answer ( yes, I did or No, I didn't.) from the students. Show Taj Mahal photo and ask " did you go to Taj Mahal? yes, I did. Or No, I didn't" Show photos and tell them " I saw ....., I met ..... , I ate......, I did........ " and ask questions them and elicit the answers from them. Example. Show an elephant photo and tell the sts " I saw an elephant. He was so big. He walked and I was afraid of him." ask them " Did you see a real elephant? and get their answers. Yes, I did or No, I didnt" . Show another photo and tell them "I went shopping and I bought two sarees" ask them " Did you wear a saree?. Continue like this. show photo and ask them Yes / No questions.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show the sts the verbs (buy, pay, meet,sleep, come, see, drink, eat,hve) and tell the sts to ask their partners Yes / No questions about the teacher's trip in India by using these verbs. Example: Did she go to Paris? No , she didn't. Did she go to India? Yes, she did. Did she eat Indian food? Yes she did. Did she eat meat? No, She didn't . Did she drink cocanat juice? Yes, she did. did she buy sarees? Yes, she did.

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Tell the sts "we use auxiliary verb "did" for questions in the past simpe tense" Did you go to India? Did she see monkeys? Short answers . Yes, I did or No, I didn't. Yes , she did or No, she didn't. For Wh- questions, put the verb in front of " did". Where did you go last year? What did she see there? Form: Did + subject + infinitive (V1)....... ? Wh- question word + did + subject + infinitive (V1)........ ? Pronunciation : Did you go to India? /dıdjə/ Where did you go last year? /dıdjə/ Show the same verbs again. Tell them to ask questions to their partners with these verbs.

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give the sts HO1. Ask them to make questions from the words and ask these questions the partners then get their answers. For FB, ask a student one of these questions and get the student's answer about the partner.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Tell the sts to write 2 sentences abaout their last holiday. " I ate......, I saw.........., I drank........, I bought.........., I had a good time/bad time........etc" Then take the sentences from the sts and give them to other sts. then tell the sts to ask questions till they find the person who wrote it. when they find the person they will write the name and give it to the T. For FB, T will ask the question the related person.

Free Practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give them HO2. Model the sentences. They will move around the class will interview a student. For FB, t will ask the sts what they learnt about their partners.
