Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of in,on, at as prepositions of time in the context of Lunch on Monday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Lunch on Monday

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask "What is your favourite day?" Get answers.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Tell that "My favourite day is Sunday. Write on the board " I have a big breakfast _______ Sunday.” “I was born ___________ 1990.” “I always have lunch ______ 1 p.m.” Post the related photos uver the sentences. Ask them to fill in the blanks.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Give pairs jumbled sentences and ask them to put in order and post on the board. Drill all of them.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Give each student one piece of time adverb and ask them to post into right category on the board. First they stand up and post it. After they all completed it, check their answers by listening and drill it.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Post the photo of three people on the Wall ask questions “ where are they” “are they friends?” “are they happy?” (2 mins) Listen and choose the correct option. Drill all of the sentences as a class and individually.(4-5 mins) Deliver the second listening worksheet and ask them to first read them and then listen and answer. Peercheck and feedback.Drill answers. (4-5 mins)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Deliver questions worksheet and ask them to first fill in the blanks and check answers. Ask questions to their peer and get the answers. Take notes. Then, stand up ask those questions as many people as possible in 3 minutes.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Stand up have circle and give each of them one time adverb and they randomly chose one of their friends and ask eachother questions and get answers. For example: Student A picked “2 a.m” and asks Students B “What do you do at 2 a.m” and B answers.
