Description

In this lesson ,ss will practice productive skill of speaking in the context of the media .They will be given the meaning ,form and pronunciation of some functional language about a) describing what it is and b) giving your opinion in the same context.

Materials

Abc Task: speaking

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson , ss will have practised speaking in the context of the media by the help of some functional language.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide some functional language that helps ss write their reviews of a movie , a book ,etc.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-If you watched a movie and you wanted to share your experience with your mates, what would you tell them? -first, you'll mention the ...... yes the name of the film 1-Will you give details or an overall idea?(An overall idea) 2-What about the poly itself?(T. elicits possible answers) 3-Will you mention anything about the characters ?What will you say?-(The main character -the relationship between them -their development, etc) 4-Will you consider parts you liked and ones you didn't like? (Yes) -So you are going to discuss points of ..... yea strength and points of weakness. 5-What else should you include?T.pauses. What about special effects? 6- Will you set the time and place?(Yes)

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading an authentic review.

T. gives ss an authentic review of a movie. SS are asked to read it to: 1- take notes of the way the critic writes a review. 2-export any useful language.

Useful Language (3-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Functional language Analysis is provided separately. T. asks ss what language did they export? T. adds by dividing the board into 2 sections; one for description and the other for opinion and starts to discuss new vocabs. with them

Speaking#1 (3-5 minutes) • To help ss organise their ideas.

T. gives HOs of the ss' book to make use of language mentioned. SS are asked to work in groups to write down notes -not full sentences- about a film they'll agree on. -Ss should make use of all language exposed in the earlier stages.

Speaking#2 (6-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Each group are told to speak up their review but before that they divide the work among them,i.e each one speaks about a certain part of the review in order to give time for each to speak.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
