Procedure

Focus on the photo (3-4 minutes) • Warmer, lead in

- SS focus on the photo then I will ask them where the people are? (in a departure lounge at an airport). - I will ask SS what some of the people in the photo are doing to pass the time (reading, sleeping, shopping, etc).

Speaking and listening (9-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the grammar and make it accessible and more interesting.

- PW, SS discuss these questions: 1- How do you prefer to travel? Why? 2- What was the last journey you made? Where did you go? 3- Have you ever had to wait a long time at an airport or a station? If so, why? I will ask students to share interesting answers with the class. For activity #3: - Focus SS on the photo and ask SS where the people are? - Ask SS what some of the people in the photos are doing to pass the time (reading, sleeping, shopping, etc). - SS work on their own and circle the activities they have done to pass the time at an airport. - SS compare ideas in pairs and find out which things they have both done. - Fine out what students' most popular ways of passing the time at an airport are.

Listening and fill in the gaps (9-10 minutes) • Practicing the continuous aspect in terms of different sentences

- I will play the recording. SS listen and tick the activities in ex 3athat the people talk about. Check answers with the class. - Read: do some shopping, phone family, work or study, people- watch and have a meal. - Give SS time to read sentences 1-10, then play the recording again. SS listen and fill in gaps with one word. SS compare answers in pairs. WCFB

Help with grammar, (9-10 minutes) • SS will discuss if the action is repeated or progress in pairs/ completed or finished/ permanent or temporary?

- I will ask SS to look at sentences 1 and 2. Which describes something that is: repeated? I progress at a specific point in time? - I will ask SS to look at sentences 1 and 2. Which describes something that is: repeated? In progress at a specific point in time? - I will ask SS to look at sentences 3 and 4. Which describes something that is: completed? Unfinished? - I will ask SS to look at sentences 5 and 6. Which describes something that is: permanent? temporary?

Reading and filling in the gaps (9-10 minutes) • Read and fill in the gaps with the correct simple or continuous form of the verbs in brackets.

- I will tell SS to to read the text for gist first before filling in the the gaps on their own. - SS compare answers in pairs. - WCFB

Fill in the gaps with the correct form of these verbs. Use the same verb for both sentences in each pair. (7-8 minutes) • Tp practice those verbs with two meanings

- SS do the exercise on their own. - I will remind SS to use the same verb for both sentences in each pair. - SS compare answers in pairs. PW. - WCFB
