Description

-In this lesson , Students will be exposed to a text in the context of health. The aim of this lesson is to get them read a text for gist, for details and for specific information in order to improve their receptive skills . students will also have a speaking time in the post reading stage to improve their fluency skills.

Materials

Abc Gap fill handout - cut outs .

Main Aims

  • To provide a reading practice using a text about health in the context of detoxifying the body from toxincs by drinking organic juice. The aim is to get the students read a text for gist, for specific information and details so as to improve their receptive skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • -To provide a set of new vocabulary in the context of health to get the students aware of a new terminology related to health .To provide the students with a speaking activity in order to improve their fluency skills and

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Greetings. - warm up : Have you had your breakfast ? what did you have ? who had juice ? do you like Juice ? what kind of juice do you like ? fruit juice or vegetable juice ? lead in: show a picture of a juicer and ask each one of them of what would they put in the juicer to make their favorite juice.

Pre-Reading - Pre teach vocabulary. (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-To provide them with a gap fill handout of difficult words in the text so as to simplify the reading and comprehension of the text , I will give them Icq's for the activity and give them 3 min to do the task. check in Pairs and give answer key. -check if they understood all the vocabulary.

Prediction . • to provide them with a prediction question to get them interested in the text.

-I will write on the board : Just juice and display a picture of a woman being offered a juice. Then I will ask them : read the title , have a look at the picture then tell me what's the story. the aim of this question is to elicit from them and get them exposed to the topic of the text .

While-Reading / reading for gist. (5-8 minutes) • To provide them with a general idea of the text.

-I will cut the text into four paragraphs , then will provide each student with a set of cut outs and the aim is to read them quickly and try to put them in order. this activity will give the students a general idea about the text and motivate them to read it and understand it later on. the students will be working alone and then they will check their partners answers in the class. feedback will be the complete text.

While-Reading/ reading for details (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- At this stage , I will give the students a True or False activity in which they have to read the text carefully and answer by circling True or False . If the sentence is False , they have to find out the correct answer. they will be doing it alone and then compare their answers. Feedback is the answer key .

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Give each student a couple of questions about health that they should answer individually then get them to share with the whole class.let them write their own answers for a 2 min then ask all of them to come to the center and mingle with each other about their healthy routine. -The other activity will be a handout that shey should fill with their answers in order to give advice for a healthy lifestyle -
