Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of simple past questions and short answers in the context of film, music, news

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about Radio Interview with Will Forber's ( a writer) in the context of film


Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*show a picture of Ian Fleming on the board and ask ss to discuss if they know him elicit some ideas, *put the questions on the board and ask ss to listen and answer them in pairs *elicit the answers

Highlighting target language (10-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

*give ss gap-fill questions *elicit that the sentences are questions in the simple past? * ask ss to listen to the audio and fill in the gaps individually *ask ss to check their answers in pairs *elicit the answers *Ask ss to listen again and answer the questions *check in pairs *elicit the answers *Ask ss to listen again and find four things that are true for Ian Fleming and James Bond *Ask them to share their answers *elicit some answers

Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

* Give each pair one chart * ask ss to discuss in their group and fill in the gaps * check their answers *write the sentences on the board * ask CCQs to elicit the meaning of the 2 model sentences * clarify pronunciation * write the short answers on the board *elicit and clarify the meaning *elicite and clarify the form * clarify pronunciation

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

*put cut-ups sentences on the table *Put ss in 7 groups *ask them to come and take on paper (sentence), go back to their seat and do it in their group and take it back to T to check it and take the other one , continue till no sentence left * winner is the group which finishes first *ask ss to put the sentences on their table and listen and repeat the questions and the short answers

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

* ask ss to work in pairs and ask the questions and answer and give some extra information about it * go around, monitor and if needed do some error correction * elicit some answers

Free Practice (9-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

* Put ss in group A and B * Ask ss to come to the board *Group A stand in the front and face group B * Group B start asking questions about the last movie they watched from B and every 20 sec they need to change in row , then they need to talk about their last holiday, last weekend *monitor and check for mistakes * ask them to sit and share any interesting information
