This lesson will introduce functional language and allow students to understand when they are applies. In addition, they will understand how to follow up from showing interest to a persons weekends. Laslty, they will practice how to use it and improve their fluency

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice via practice conversations in the context of weekends

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will lead in by asking them to guess what I did last weekend. Then I will answer that I went to a nice restaurant and had lunch with my friend . Then I spent all night at the library studying.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an audio recording with 2 conversations between coworkers (Jane and Henry, Mick and Sarah) showing interest in each others weekends

I will play and audio (conversation between coworkers showing interest in others weekends). - Give handout of fill in the gaps - Task is to be done Solo then PW checked then WC check ICQ: Fill in the gaps. Guess who the conversation is between.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check their understanding of how to show interest in peoples weekends and prepare students for more meaningful speaking practice on how to do it

1- I will split them into 7 groups - Give handout of 8 sentences sheet and 8 responses -ICQ: Match the responses with the correct sentence in groups -WC check 2- I will keep them in their groups - Give them a table with feelings handout and responses -ICQ: match the correct response with the correct feelings -WC check 3- I will keep them in their groups - Give them a handout with 10 follow up to response sentenceswith fill in the gaps ICQ: fill in the gaps with was, did or are -WC check

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further their understanding of how to show interest in peoples weekends and prepare students for free practice on applying it

I will rearrange them into 7 new groups -give 4 groups a handout and the other 3 groups another handout of a speaking activity -ICQ: in pairs take take turns to say sentences 1 - and the other person responds with the given responses. -if there is time mix them and let them practice again with new sentences

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language (Showing interest in peoples weekends and following up with a response)

Give students handouts ask them to talk in pair about the following six sentences ICQ: in pairs ask each other about the followwing sentences and respond correctly and use follow up answers. Role play with students as a CCQ
