Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson the Ss will have learnt new vocabulary in the context of high street shopping (through Mr. Bean's Saturday shopping)

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the Ss will have practiced speaking, for accuracy and fluency, in the context

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shows a short video about shopping to set the context

Exposure/Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher introduces the new vocabulary within the context of Mr. Bean's high street shopping.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher elicits vocabulary and teaches the new vocabulary and drills for pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss work on a fill in the blanks activity using the new vocabulary. Ss work individually first and then do pair check of Ex1. Teacher hands out the answer key as feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The Ss have a competition. They are divided into 2 groups. One Ss describe a new word each time. And the others in the group pick it on the board and say it out loud. Pronunciation is also important. WC feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss work individually first. They make a shopping list. Then they all stand up and tell as many other Ss as they can about their shopping list. WC feedback. And delayed error correction if needed.
