Past Simple positive regular and irregular verbs
Elementary, A1 level

Description

In this lesson, students learn and practice past simple regular and irregular verbs in their positive forms. Connected to the previous lesson's context, I will elicit regular and irregular verbs from the reading text about Nelson Mandela. Then, students are introduced to the meanings and forms of the verbs. After M and F comprehension, students listen to the pronounciation of verbs and practice them. As controlled practice, they do a fill in the blanks controlled practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of past simple regular and irregular positive verbs in the context of history

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the pronounciation of regular and irregular verbs through listening

Procedure

Lead-In (3-4 minutes) • To set a clear context through eliciting of the target verbs

Asking couple of questions from the text in order to set the context. .Who is this person in the picture? .Who was he? .When did he start university?

Guided Discovery (3-6 minutes) • to let students notice the past regular and irregular verbs

-Show them the box in ex. 4a. -Find these verbs in the reading text in groups, underline them ICQ: What are you going to find in the reading? (Verbs) -Choose one person from each group, call by their name from the name tags that the previous teacher told them to write. -Give markers to them. -Tell them to underline the read
