Description

In this lesson, students are going to listen for specific information and listen for details. They are going to reflect on what they listened to and do a little bit speaking related to the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about spas in the context of beauty and skin treatment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of beauty and skin treatment

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- I will show the students a picture of a man and woman in the spa -I will ask them about what do think where are they? try to elicit Spa from them - I will ask them "have you ever been to a spa or health farm?" if yes, did you enjoy it? if no, would you like to go? why? why not?

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-I will ask students to work in pairs and match the new vocabulary with the possible meaning - When they finish I will ask them to check the other students' work and if they could find something different and which version is correct. After that, I will give them a handout with the answer key to check their answers. -Following that, I will give them a reading text and answer the questions first individually, then they will check in pairs: Why did the journalists go to the spa? " reading for gist" Which treatment do you think Joanna and Stephen will like best? " prediction"

While-Listening - Listening for specific information (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging specific information listening tasks

- I will ask the students to listen to the recording again -They will listen individually and write down the missing words. - When they finish, I will ask them to check their answers in pairs, then I will check the answers they have and give feedback

While-Listening - Listening for details (10-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

- I will give the students handout with a table to complete with some information from the listening -They are going to listen to each item seperately -They will write the mark that Stephen and Joanna give for each treatment and write down the reasons for that. -After finishing them all, I will give them time to check in pairs -Following checking in pairs, there will be whole class check.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- In this stage, I will ask these questions 1- which of the treatments would you choose to have? and why? 2-In your country who does usually go to the spa? Men or women? why do you think so? 3-What does " Beauty is only skin deep" mean? Do you agree with that?
