Description

In this lesson the SS will learn the difference between present perfect simple and present perfect progressive.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-greet the SS -Remind SS of Thomas: -Remember Thomas? How long has he been living in this house? -Has he had any problems with his landlord? -How about you? -How long have you been living in your house or apartment? -Have you had any problems with your landlord?

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-explain to the SS that they are going to have a test -clear instruction: Do you need to write the answer? (No) Do you need to choose the correct answer? (Yes) -give them the HOs face down -Turn the papers over -SS do it on their own -SS check the answers in pairs -monitor -project the HO on the board -ask the SS to circle the correct answers on the board -discuss the Qs and circle the correct answer on the board

Teach (12-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-write the first model sentence on the board. He has called his friend three times. -CCQs: Did he call his friend? Did he stop and start again? -draw the timeline -write the second model sentence: I have been watching TV for two hours. -CCQs: When did I start watching TV? Am I still watching TV? Did I stop watching TV? -draw the timeline -write the third model sentence on the board: It has been raining since yesterday. -CCQs: When did it start to rain? Is it still raining? Did it stop? -draw the timeline -break the form (+..._...?) -work on pronunciation (stress, linking, showa sound) -model + drill + mark on the board -Project ex 6 page 81 on the board -SS discuss the Qs in pairs -monitor -ask SS the Qs and circle the correct answer on the board

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-explain the task -ICQs Do you choose the correct answer? Do you write the correct answer? What do you write? -give out the HO -the SS do the task on their own -pair check -monitor -project ex 7a on the board -ask the SS to write the correct answer on the board -check the answers with the WC

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-ask SS to write down 4 Qs to ask their partners -write the list of verbs and nouns on the board -ICQs: What do you write? Do you use past simple? Do you use present perfect or present perfect progressive? How many tenses? -SS write the Qs on their own -they ask each other the Qs they have written -monitor -take notes of the errors -the SS report to class -error correction on the board
