In this lesson students will learn about present simple questions(the second person singular or plural mostly) as well as pronunciation and intonation.The main aim is grammar.It is expected that they will be able to ask each other questions by the end of the lesson.


Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Present Simple in the context of Asking information questions with where,when, what time,etc

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about Asking questions in the context of How to pronounce do you


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a warm up I will ask them some questions like Where do you live in Istanbul? what time do you wake up? etc ,I will start from myself and then ask some of them these questions to introduce the topic

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

In this stage I will explain the form and sdtructure completely,I will mention the fact we use Do as a helping verb and another main verb,Then I will introduce wh-words like where,when and what time with some examples and at the end I will teach short answers.I will write the examples on the board for them to take notes as well.

Task (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this stage I will divide them in to groups and give them task 5 .It is expected that the students put the words in order and make questions and short answers.

Planning (3-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

In this stage task 6 will be given to them. Each student should do this by him/her self. At the end of the task the answers will be checked.

Report (8-10 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

In this stage Ss will be divided into 2 groups A and B and will be given 2 different tasks, (page 86 & 91)They are should make questions and ask each other.This task will give the weak Ss the opportunity to work with stronger ones and also they will have a chance to practice what they have been taught.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

In this stage pronunciation and intonation will be taught.I will write the questions on the board and read them. Then I will ask them to listen to the CD and repeat to practice.They also be given task 7, they need to listen to the CD and write 4 sentences and say if they are the same or not.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

In this stage first I will explain how to tell someone your phone number, then Ss will be divided to 2 groups again and will be given task 1A, Each student is expected to tell their own number.
