Description

-In this lesson , Students will learn about how to ask indirect and polite questions through a dialogue in the context of buisness , my lesson will be focusing on introducing four types of asking a request then I will show the meaning , form and pronounciation of each one of them , after that I will give them a controlled practise followed by a semi controlled one then give them a speaking activity to see to what extent they understood the target language.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of using direct and polite questions in the context of buisness , by the end of the lesson , students will be able to practise indirect questions through controlled practice and speaking activity.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice using indirect and polite questions in the context of buisness .

Procedure

lead in • to generate interest in the topic of the lesson

I will display a picture of someone whi is having an interview in the cafe, And elicit who the people are and what they are talking about,

Reading task (5-8 minutes) • - to provide a context through a dialogue about the use of polite and indirect questions .

-I will provide the students with a reading task which cames as a dialogue, I will ask them to read it for 3 min then I will check their comprehension by eliciting. The aim of this task is to introduce the target language through a context , then will be asking them about the interview of the buisnessman and what kind of interview he was doing.

highlighting the target language (6-7 minutes) • to highlight the target language by use of eliciting .

-In this stage , I will elicit the target language by CCQ's about the dialogue , I will ask them to find out the expressions used by the interviewer to make requests . the aim of this stage is to make them figure out the language used by the interviewer themselves . Then I will ask them to write every expression on the board for clarification. - what is the interview about ? -what did the man want from the owner of the restaurant ? -what type of expressions he used ? -is he polite or impolite? then I will ask them to write the epressions on the board .

clarifying the target language (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning , form and pronounciation of the target language.

-Now that the target language is exposed on the board , I will check the meaning first by CCQ's : are these polite or impolite questions ? Are these direct or indirect question ? if I ask this question : I want some advice , is it polite or impolite ? what do we use to show politness ? clarify the form : - elicit then write the form on the board. Clarify the pronounciation , Drill

language practise (8-10 minutes) • To provide controlled practise of the use of polite and indirect questions through an activity.

-I will provide them with an activity in which they have to replace the direct questions to indirect questions , pair them up , then give answer key.

Produce (8-9 minutes) • to provide the students with an activity in which they have to produce the target language.

In this speaking activity, students use indirect question phrases to make polite requests. Each student is given a request card. The students move around the class and try to persuade as many people as possible to do whatever is on their card. They do this by explaining the situation and using phrases from the board to make polite requests,
