To provide accuracy speaking practice using indirect and polite questions in the context of buisness .
Procedure (32-41 minutes)
I will display a picture of someone whi is having an interview in the cafe, And elicit who the people are and what they are talking about,
-I will provide the students with a reading task which cames as a dialogue, I will ask them to read it for 3 min then I will check their comprehension by eliciting. The aim of this task is to introduce the target language through a context , then will be asking them about the interview of the buisnessman and what kind of interview he was doing.
-In this stage , I will elicit the target language by CCQ's about the dialogue , I will ask them to find out the expressions used by the interviewer to make requests . the aim of this stage is to make them figure out the language used by the interviewer themselves . Then I will ask them to write every expression on the board for clarification. - what is the interview about ? -what did the man want from the owner of the restaurant ? -what type of expressions he used ? -is he polite or impolite? then I will ask them to write the epressions on the board .
-Now that the target language is exposed on the board , I will check the meaning first by CCQ's : are these polite or impolite questions ? Are these direct or indirect question ? if I ask this question : I want some advice , is it polite or impolite ? what do we use to show politness ? clarify the form : - elicit then write the form on the board. Clarify the pronounciation , Drill
-I will provide them with an activity in which they have to replace the direct questions to indirect questions , pair them up , then give answer key.
In this speaking activity, students use indirect question phrases to make polite requests. Each student is given a request card. The students move around the class and try to persuade as many people as possible to do whatever is on their card. They do this by explaining the situation and using phrases from the board to make polite requests,
