In this lesson students are going to improve their reading skills in the context of cultural and historic landmarks in London.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a photo to let the students guess where it was taken. Ask them three questions with regard to this photo.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Elicit and pre-teach new vocabulary they are about to read in the text.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Provide the students with a gist task of answering true or false questions related to the task. Ask ICQs. Students work alone. They then write the answers on the board and we discuss them together.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss are devided into group A and B. A piece of paper is attached to the far of the class. One person from each group runs and checks for answers then comes to the other one and and gives them to him or her to write. The one who completes the questionnaire first wins.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students must decide as a group and pick only three places they want to go out of the entire list of places. First in pairs then as a group.
