Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about 100 hundred places to visit before you die in the context of around the world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of natural wonder words,ancient wonder words in the context of around the world


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*Ask the Ss to discuss these 2 questions : 1- Have you ever traveled to another country?Where?Why? 2- If you have a chance travel to any country you want ,What will it be? and why?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask the Ss to discuss this question in pairs: *What do you look for in a holiday destination? Discuss if these things are important or not. -Natural wonders, such as waterfalls,mountains,etc. -Ancient archeological sites and great monuments. -Romantic ,historical cities . -Exciting modern cities. -Beautiful beaches and coast line.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-I explain that the text shows the results of a vote by viewers of a TV programme. a- Ask them to scan the text quickly to find the five categories and winners. b- Students work in small groups to brain storm information they know or think they know about each place.I'll set time limit to ensure that they work quickly. c-Give the students time to guess the meaning of the words and match the word with its meaning. Then I'll check the answers with the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students work in pairs before checking with the whole class to find detailed information from the text.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask them at first to work alone to: -Put the five places in order starting with the one you most like to visit. -Are there any other places in the world that you have always wanted to go? -Have you been anywhere that you think everyone should see before they die? Then Ss discuss their ideas in pairs, finally do brief feedback with the whole class to hear their ideas.
