Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a role play activity in the context of Roles in life . By the end of the class , Students will be able to practise a role play to develop their fluency skills .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I will set my lead in by showing some pictures of myself in the context of presenting my role as a siser , a teacher, a friend , a daughter. This will help learners find out the context of the lesson by eliciting who i am as a person . through these pictures , I will elicit vocabulary for family and work .

Pre-Listening - Pre teach vocab (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-To prevent learners getting blocked by the unfamiliar vocabulary in the listening task , I will give them a handout for matching each word with it's definition. the aim of this task is to make sure they understand any lexis and make it easier for them to understand the whole task. give handout , let them match the words , Give CCQ's then move on.

Prediction stage (2-3 minutes) • it's aim is let the students know what type of listening they will going to deal with.

-I will ask them a question about their priority in life : what is more important for them : is it family or work . it's a quick task to get them interested in the topic of the lesson.

While-Listening (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-For this stage , I will ask them to listen to the audio track for gist and find out what are Alex and hayes roles in life . the activity will be to write next to each role A for Alex and H for Hayes . if they dont listen for the first time , replay it until they do the task. check the answers in pairs then give feedback .

While-Listening (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-After they finish listening for gist , I will explain to them that this time they have to listen carefully to the conversation of Alex and Hayes about Roles in life and to answer the questions . it will be an individual task . I will have to make sure that they listened well if they need more listening , I will replay it again until everyones finishes. after that , I will ask them to check their answers in Pairs and give feedback.

Post-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-For this stage , I will split the class into two groups and give each one of them a couple of questions for work and Family , each group has to sit together and discuss about their topic then from each group will have to pair up with the other for the other group and discuss . later on , I will be writing their mistakes while they speak and correct them on the board.
