In this lesson students are going to learn and practice different future forms to talk about the future in the context of making plans for the weekend.

Main Aims

  • To provide students with practice for future forms in the context of making plans for the weekend.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with practice for reading for general information and speaking practice for fluency.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss to have a discussion in pairs about what are their plans for the weekend. In feedback ss speak about their partner's plans Write the correct sentence on the WB

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss read a text alone and answer the questions in pairs. Explain the task Give handouts General FB

Highlighting and Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language and clarify meaning form and pronunciation of the target language.

Ss match the sentence from the text and the three different ways of talking about the future in pairs. Explain the task Give handouts In general FB use the timeline for concept checking. Draw a table on the board in order to elicit the form. Drill pronunciation

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss to work in pairs and underline the most appropriate future forms in the conversations. Explain the task Give the material Take general feedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss work in pairs and complete the sentences by putting the verb in the most appropriate future forms Explain the task and give the material Ss work in pairs Ss check their answers on the board

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss write three plans for the weekend and they speak around the class to find someone who has the same plans as them. Explain the ask, ss write their plans and then speak. Monitor and check for errors to correct in feedback.
