Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students should be able to learn food items vocabulary and distinguish between count and uncount nouns that they will be taught.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson sts should be able to use the New vocabulary during a free practice stage.

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set the context for the lesson.

T shows the ss a photograph of herself and elicits its description.

Presentation (10-12 minutes) • To expose the students to TL.

T shows ss a photo and elicits an empty fridge. “What do we need to do”, she asks to elicit (grocery) shopping. T shows a photo of a supermarket. “What do we buy here”, she elicits again and begins showing the items of food (count and uncount). She elicits the meaning, form and pronunciation.

Practice #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide opportunity to practice the TL.

T draws three people on the board and names them Oussama, Bengu and Maryam. Teacher asks the students to label the items presented on the board SOLO. Check in pairs. Delayed FB

Practice #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide semi-controlled practice activity.

Food items identifying activity. One of the students is asked to sit with his back facing the whiteboard (let’s call him/her X). T shows a photo of an item, the students facing the board and they try to describe it to the X. Once the X guesses the item’s name, he/she exchanges seats with the X and the cycle continues. Feedback is given during the practice.

Production (10-12 minutes) • To practice freely the TL.

“I have a party at my home”, says the teacher,”what can I cook with the items I have in the fridge”? Divide the group into strawberries and apples. Let them discuss within their group. Then strawberries discuss with apples.
