In this lesson, students learn how to talk about someone or who had a great impact on their personalities through guided discovery based on my own experience regarding the person who inspired me in my life. The focus will be on some new vocab as well.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of people who influenced you in your life.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about persons who influenced Tara in the context of describe personality


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the students a picture of Ramy and ask students who he is. I will ask students how did he influence their life. I will ask them who has influenced them in their life. How and why?

exposure (10-12 minutes) • Vocabulary exposure in the context of listening.

I will show the students a picture of Tara. I will show the students two other pictures related to Tara. The students will listen to Tara and find out who these people are, but before they need to know some vocabulary. The students will match the expressions Tara used with their meaning.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will give the students an exercise and they will be asked to fill the gap. I will ask students to listen to the track again in order to check their answers

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students will listen again and make notes on how did each person influence Tara. I will give the students a schedule and they will complete it.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask students to talk about three people in groups. I will prepare some handouts of different people, and the students will choose one of the papers randomly and talk about the people who have influenced them.
