Description

The main of this lesson is listening in the context of shopping malls. Students will first do some speaking practice about shopping malls. Then students will quickly go over ordinal numbers in order to describe where things are in the shopping center. Students will then do four different listening activities in the context of shopping centers.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be shown various pictures of shopping malls teacher will ask questions about the picture and try to elicit as much vocabulary as possible from the images.

Speaking practice (5-5 minutes) • to set the context of the lesson

Ss will be shown different questions on the board. Ss will take turns asking and answering questions with their partners and report back answers to the teacher.

Vocabulary and Listening (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention ordinal numbers

students will be shown an image of ordinal numbers and how they are used teacher will quick choral drilling of the ordinal numbers. teacher will then do individual drilling the check for pronunciation. Students will then do a listeninng activity where they have to underline the words they here (distinguish between ordinal and cardinal numbers) SS will be shown a picture and they will discuss in pairs where different things are located in the shopping center. ss will report asnwers back to teacher.

Vocabulary and Listening (6-8 minutes) • listening to vocabulary about specific things in shopping malls.

students will first be shown pictures of things that are located in shopping malls. teacher will drill words with students students will then be given a handout where they have to match the vocabulary words to the images. students will then listen to text and then check their answers.

Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • listening to vocabulary about specific things in shopping malls.

Ss will listen to 4 different dialogues and tick the words they here in the table in the given handout. ss will then peer check their answers. if needed ss will listen again. Students will listen to the dialoges again and and match varıous sentences to the picures in the prevıous excercise. ss will quıckly peer check answers Then students will report answers to teacher

Free Practice (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students will discuss their favorite places to shop in istanbul that are not shopping centers and why they lıke them. are they cheap Does it sell interesting things ? Is ıt specıal to the area? ect.... tt will encourage students to take notes of students answers teacher will eliclit answers from students and have a discussion about the best places to shop in istanbul.
