Description

in this lesson ss learn some new linking expressions. the lead in of the lesson is a story that is related to a reading and then students are exposed to the target language by matching activity . clarification part is done by ss and form,pronunciation of some of the linking expressions are covered by teacher. ss have a semi-controlled practice and at the end they will work on their fluency by speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, my ss are able to speak fluently in their conversation with their partner in the context of saving money

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher starts the class with a story of her friend Kath Kelly. she tells them how extravagant Kath was and with pictures on the board teacher leads students to give her advice that she should save her money.teacher ells them her friend had a problem ome day and she made an unusaul decision. prediction: teacher tells students to read the text and find out what was her problem and why did she decide to live on 1 TL a day? FB: Ss read the text and report to teacher. teacher tells ss to write 3 tips that how can she save more money. ss stand up and talk to other groups and find the most interesting tip. FB: ss report their interesting tip to WC.

Exposure and highlighting (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation and draw students' attention to the target language

teacher explains that there is a game for ss ,she will give each pair some words and pictures and special name ,when the light is on they have time to match the sentence with linking expression with the picture but as soon as the light goes off they have to stop searching and if they have the answer they should shout their special names and read it out load to check it with teacher and check it with ss and teacher.

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

All the sentences that were practiced are given to ss in a box with a question related to the form of linking expressions and every student alone tries to highlight the form . they check their answers with their partners. ss come to board and highlight the forms for teacher. T clarifies pronunciation/stress of number 4,5,6 and drills the sentences.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss are given a HO that includes incomplete sentences , all of the linking words are projected on the board and ss choose one of them for the sentences and start to complete the sentences separately. they check them in pairs.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ss start to walk around the class and tell to other ss their five tips and try to find the most interesting tip . ss nominate each other and tell WC the most interesting sentences and if there is any error teacher starts to correct students by oral correction and facial expressions and that leads to self correction or peer correction.

second free practice (5-8 minutes) • to provide students with free practice of the target language

ss are given a picture that includes situation and linking word and thay start to make sentences according to the pictures and sentences and tell them to their partner. delay FB on the board.
