Description

In this lesson, students will learn about Superlative Forms of the adjectives through the reading text from the previous lesson.They will follow this up with controlled practices such as scanning for the form through the reading text and putting the clipped sentences into the correct order. This lesson will finish up with semi-controlled mingling by asking the questions which have been completed in previous stage to each other.

Materials

Abc HO2 / Clipped words
Abc Test-HO1/ Underline the correct word
Abc HO3 / Complete the questions with the superlative form

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Superlative Forms of the Adjectives in the context of Science & Technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a mingle in the context of Science & Technology

Procedure

Warm-up / Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To connect this lesson to the previous lesson and test SS about superlative form

T will test SS by giving 5 sentences including both comparative and superlative forms. - Ask SS to underline the correct word. E.g: Online auctions are popular because you can find the strangest / stranger things there.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language ( superlative) through a text or situation

- ASK the SS to find another examples of superlative forms in the reading text. Feedback: Ask early finishers to write their examples on the WB.

Focus on Meaning and Form (6-7 minutes) • To draw SS' attention to the meaning and on the form of the TL (Superlative Form)

T will elicit the form of the model sentences from the text. [ Which ones are the longer adjs? SS: expensive / unusual / popular / famous] [ Which ones are the short adjs? SS:big / large ]

Controlled Practice (9-10 minutes) • To practise the form of the TL ( Superlative )

SS will put the clipped words in the correct order to make superlative sentences Instruction: Put the clipped ( mime this word if necessary) words in the correct order.

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To practise the form of the TL ( Superlative ) by gap filling

SS will complete the question ( including Present Perfect ) sentences with the superlative form of the adjectives. E.g: What's________ ( long) time you've ever spent on the internet? Instruction: Complete the questions with the superlative forms of the adjectives.

Semi-Controlled Practice (9-10 minutes) • To provide SS an opportunity for semi-controlled speaking about the meaning,form and pronunciation

Opinion questionnaire - SS will ask the questions which have been completed in the previous stage to each other by mingling in the classroom. T will model the task if necessary. ***Make sure the correct pronunciation of the contraction forms. Eg: What's............you've.......? Instruction: Please, stand up and ask these questions to your friends.
