Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice through a text about Tim Berners lee the inventor of the world- wide- web.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of some new lexis through an interesting context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show some pictures to the students about different famous inventions. let them think and talk about what they know about these inventions by asking questions for example, do you know who is the first person who made the light bulb?

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will ask the students to look up the meaning of the words and the phrases in the box in the dictionary.Then ask them to check their answers in pairs and then I will give them the right answers in the feedback.

Gist reading (8-10 minutes) • To focus students' attention on the main general idea of the text.

I will ask students to read the text looking for the main idea by asking questions such as " Did Tim Berners lee invent the light bulb? they will then read and answer no, I will then ask them what did he invent?

Detailed reading. (10-12 minutes) • To give the students the chance to find specific information about the topic.

I will ask the student why do we not pay for the use of the internet? then let them read to find the answer. Then ask them to fill in the fact file and check their answers in pairs. then i will give them the right answer in the feedback.

Language focus on form. (10-12 minutes) • To highlight the grammar rule in the text which is the past simple regular and irregular verbs.

I will ask the students to work in pairs scan the text looking for two sentences that describe Tim's life now and four sentences about his life in the past. I will write the four sentences on the board and ask the students to underline the verbs I will highlight that : for most verbs we add -ed. for verbs ending in e we add -d for verbs ending in y preceded by a consonant we change the y into i and add -ed.

Free practice. (10-11 minutes) • Helps students use the vocabulary and the grammar they have learnt to produce language.

I will ask the students to work in pairs and write sentences about past experiences.I will give them an example " I went to Alozy secondary school.
