In this lesson students are going to learn and practice adverbs of frequency through guided discovery based on a listening text about how often do people contact their friends

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice adverbs of frequency in the context of how often do people contact their friends.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with practice for listening for specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set learning environment and engage students.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Write "contacting friends" as word web on the board and ask students to add words depending on how they contact their friends. Ss listen a text and fill the gaps using the words in the box. Explain the task and give the handouts Ss do the task. SS pair check and then take w/c FB

Highlighting and Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Give ss the handouts containing the model sentences from the text they listened and a scale line. In pairs ss fill the scale line with adverbs of frequency from the sentence. Take w/c FB. Ss do exercise 1 in pairs Take w/c FB Elicit the form by also using the model sentences from the text

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students work in groups and do exercise 10 in the work book Explain the task and give the handouts Ss work in groups Early finishers write their sentences on the board Take w/c FB

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss work in pairs and do exercise 4 Explain the task and give out the material Monitor Do a delayed error correction if there is any.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss write two things that they never do, two things they sometimes and two things that they always do and then they speak to their peers about it. Explain the task Ss write the things for two minutes Ss speak with their peers about their things.
