Description

In this lesson students will practice speaking and writing in the context of homes. They will do a dictogloss activity where they listen to a short paragraph about my home and then work in pairs to rewrite the paragraph. They will also write a description of their own homes and walk and the room and find someone they would like to swap houses. Then students will have a discussion about their trying to find further information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be shown a photo of an interesting house. Teacher will ask questions to students about their homes trying to elicit as much vocabulary as possible from the previous lessona. teacher will then briefly talk about his home.

Dictogloss activity (12-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text.

Dictogloss activity: Teacher will read a short paragragh about their home. teacher will read the paragraph again and have students write down important infomration. nouns verbs adjectives. teacher will read the paragraph again and students will write down as much information as they can, Ss will then get into groups and chose a secretary. Ss will share information they wrote down with the secretary and try to rewrite the paragraph. teache will then show paragraph on the board. Ss can check for their mistakes from the board.

Highlighting (5-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

teacher will present some useful phrases in order to help students describe their houses. teacher will drill phrases with students.

Writing and speaking in the context of houseswaps (12-12 minutes) • writing practice - speaking practice

students will write a short descriptions of their homes. They will then walk around the room and read the descriptions of their homes and try to find someome they want to swap homes with. Teacher will walk around the room and monitor students They will then report their answers back to the teacher. Teacher will then correct any noticed mistakes while monitoring or when they are giving their answers.

Dream home (10-13 minutes) • writing speaking practice in the context of dream homes

Ss will talk in pairs about their dream homes. They will take down notes of at least five things their partner wants in their dream home. Ss will report back aswers to the teacher. Teacher will write newly discussed vocabulary on the board.
