Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher writes the prepositions on the board and draws boxes. Teacher nominates students and students will come to the board and draw the prepositions near the box pictures.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Teacher reads the texts from the previous class. Students take a pencil and as the teacher reads, teacher stops after each preposition and students circle the prepositions., Teacher lists the prepositions on the board. Students complete the gaps with the correct preposition. Teacher elicits answers and uses colorful markers to write the fill in the blanks activity on the board. Students look at each other and everybody chooses somebody from the classroom without telling his/her name. They complete the sentences in the activity accordingly. Then, some of the students read their sentences and the students try to guess who that person is.

Task (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

During workbook activity, teacher shows the map on the board with the projector. Teacher and the students examine the map. For the first activity, teacher reads both options and nominates students to answer. Teacher illustrates the options with his/her hand for students to see the difference between the prepositions and choose the correct one. For the next activity, teacher reads the sentences and students tell the answer. Teacher writes them on the board. For the last activity, students work in pairs the circle the correct prepositions. Teacher writes the text on the board and students come to the board to circle the correct preposition.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

For the extra activity, teacher puts the students in pairs and and gives the previously cut pages to the pairs. Students take turns to exchange information with their partner. Teacher demonstrates the activity with the help of a student. Students fill in the gaps in pairs. After they are finished, teacher goes through the answers as a whole class activity.
