Description

In this lesson students learn about how to form questions with verb be in the present simple, answer yes\no questions using short forms and they will also learn about recognizing the stress in the questions and short answers. The language is clarified through handouts containing different exercises, through audio, the board and free practice speaking.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson the students will be better able to form questions with (be). Students will also be better able to pronounce the short answers to yes\no questions and define the stress in the questions and the short answers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of on the names of some jobs taught in the previous lesson.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher hands out the papers containing the activities. Then ask the students to look at the picture and try to elicit as much information as possible about this picture by asking questions such as , where is it? what is that lady doing in this picture?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher gives the students clear instructions about how to answer the questions in exercise 1 . And then the teacher answers the first question as an example.then ask ICQS. Then gives the students time to answer the rest of the questions. while they are answering teacher will monitor their performance and try to guide those who may find some difficulties through micro teaching. After they finish the teacher will play the audio and ask students to check their answers.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

How are questions formed with verb be in the present simple . on the board teacher divide it into two columns write questions in one column and answers in the other one. ask the students to match. then illustrate the form by drawing arrows pointing to the verb and the subject in both the question form and the answer form.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

clarify the meanings of the questions. clarify the formation of questions with verb be in the present simple using ( am, is, are) and the formation of answers in the positive and negative form with the short forms. clarify the stress in questions and short answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students answer another exercise (put the questions into the correct order) then let them check their answers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students work in pairs. each student chooses five questions to ask his\ her partner. Teacher listens to their language production and finds out the weaknesses and then gives them more examples if necessary and corrects the pronunciation and the stress in questions and short answers.
