Description

In this lesson, students learn about the past simple tense for regular verbs ’watch/watched’ and the focus will be on meaning, form, and pronunciation as well. The student will learn when to use the past simple.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Students will be given short sentences about actions happened in in the past. -I will try to get the meaning from students by using some pictures addressing the past simple. The focus will be on the form, meaning, and pronunciation.

Presenting (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-I will give them the form of the past simple (Subject+Verb in the past) -I will give students a set of pictures happened in the past with sentences behind these pictures and try to elicit the answer from the students. -I will ask questions to make sure that they understand the past simple.

Controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Students will be asked to complete the sentences in the exercise 1 page 49 - I will ask students to check with each others. -I will check the answers of the students and correct their mistakes -I will give students the answers key to the exercise.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-I will clarify the form of the past simple for regular forms: Subject+verb+ed/I played tennis yesterday. -Students will listen to me and pronounce after me: Played/worked I will clarify the meaning of the past simple: we use the past simple to talk about actions started and finished in the past. He studied hard last night.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Students will listen and check to the track 6.9 and check their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- students will work in pairs the exercise 2. -They will talk about themselves asking the questions in the exercise. -Students will be asked to come to the floor to practice.

Free Practice (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-I will ask students to write three sentences of what they did yesterday -Students will come to the floor and converse with each other
