In this lesson, Students will improve their listening skills by having them listen to audio materials.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation

Procedure

Lead-in (6-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-The teacher is going to ask his students if they have done any of the things written in the ex1a. -In ex1b the teacher will make students work in group and try to figure out what would they do if they were in those situations. -FB: Ss will be asked to stand up and find a partner and exchange questions and answers together. -Pre-teach vocab: In this stage, students will be provided with key words in the text in order to clarify their listening better. Different techniques will be used to elicit the vocab from the students. 1-(Run-out: context from a situation using a picture) 2-(Locked myself : context from a situation with picture) 3-( Switched on: context from a situation) 4-( Bike ride: Picture) 5- (Ladder: Picture)

Listening for gist (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with more comprehension and encourage them to listen

-The Ss will listen to the track 1.44 and they will work in pairs and they be required to gather broad information on what each phone call is about. -FB: The students exchange their views together to see if they are correct and the T will monitor and correct.

Listening for specific information (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with a challenging task by making them look for specific information

-In ex2 The students are going to listen to three phone calls between friends, Jon, Rob, Amy. and they will work in pairs, and try to answer the questions of each conversation A, B and C. Then, the students be asked to tell their answers. -FB: The answers will be folded in papers and the students will be asked to unfold them to check their answers.

Listening for detail (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

-In ex.3a The students will work in pairs and they are required to thick (/) the things that are true for Rob and correct the thing that are wrong.The Ss will be asked to exchange each others' answers. -FB: The students will listen to track 1.44 to check their answers. -In ex3b the Ss are going to be asked about their thoughts on how Rob is going to get back into his home. When the students finish they will listen to the track 1.45 and check if they were right.

Post Listening (5-7 minutes) • To give the opportunity to students to speak and improve their fluency and increase the STT more

-The Ss will be provided with a teacher made activity, then, they will be required to work in groups and play roles in a conversation.
