Grammar (Describing past Habits)
Upper Intermediate level

Description

This Grammer lesson is a Situational Presentation (PPP) and will illustrate to students how to describe past habits via modal verbs "used to" and "would". The lesson will lead in by defining what a habit is and the tutor will try to deduct whether students understand the different forms of used to. A comprehensive explanation of the different versions will be illustrated. A quiz will be deducted to test their comprehension. Later, this lesson will explain how would is used to describe past events. Afterwards, an exercise to restructure sentences with either used to or would is performed to test their understanding of the difference between the two terms. In addition, there will be an exercise to restructure sentences with either used to or would. The main theme of this session is related to animals and pets. My colleague Shelly will introduce the topic by initiating a reading class based on the theme. The text in the reading task contains many references to past habits using the mentioned phrases. Therefore, to make the Grammer lesson relevant, students will be asked to find used to and would expressions with CCQ. Lastly, a freer exercise will be conducted and students will be asked to explain their personal past habits with their partners.
