Description

This lesson starts with eliciting SS' favorites in different areas in personalized way. This is followed by teaching 5 new words pertinent to reading text and get them involved with the whole context by answering the gist question set by the teacher.Finally, they are asked to read the text and ask/answer questions about their favorites in relation to the words in ex 2.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The warm up stage starts by asking questions to get the students thinking about their favorites in various areas. After which, a picture of Gina Macy with the Eiffel Tower in the background is shown via the video projector. Meanwhile, the SS are asked to elicit some information from the picture.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage words like: divorced, photographer, adore, designer, are written on the left side of the board and their definitions as: not married,takes photos with a camera,love someone very much,makes plans or patterns for clothes on the right. This helps students understand the text better. Then the definitions on the right are cleared and the teacher asks the meaning of the words from the SS to check their understanding. Is divorced with wife or husband or without wife or husband ? Does a photographer takes a photo or paint a picture? Is adore to love or not to love someone very much? Is a designer designs/makes pattern or paints a picture?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage SS are asked to have skim the text about Gina Macy and find out if the text from an internet blog or a newspaper.After that, they should scan the text to fine out the answers of the following questions on pieces of paper which are handed over to them.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

SS are asked to ask/answer the following questions: What is her favorite city? What is her favorite day? What is her favorite designer? What is her favorite food?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

If there is enough time, SS are asked to have freer practice to mingle and ask ask/answer questions about their favorite in relation to the words in Exercise about Gina Macy. What is your favorite city? What is your favorite day? What is your favorite designer? What is your favorite food?
