In this lesson students will learn more about simple present tense, wh- questions as well as practice speaking 'who we live with' context.

Main Aims

  • To introduce/review and give Ss practice in Present Simple – wh- questions & short answers in the context of who we live with

Subsidiary Aims

  • T to give Ss practice in speaking for fluency and accuracy


Preperation / lead-in (2-3 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

Ss to ask T the following wh- questions, T then write the Q&A on the board. What is your name?Zeyno. Where do you live? in Sarıyer, Istanbul. Whodo you live with? with my husband and two little sons When do you wake up? around 7:00 o'clock in the morning. why do you want to teach? because i love the language.

Highlighting/Clarification (2-3 minutes) • To check what Ss know about the TL and provide clarification of meaning and form

Ss will be given HO, asking them to fill in the gaps which are at the beginning of each sentence with appropriate wh-questions as seen on top of the HO. who/what/why/how/where ------ is he from? Brighton, England ------ does he live with? With his parents ------does he live at home? Because he likes it. ------ is his name? Andy

peer check (1-2 minutes) • To enable students check their answers and be more encouraged

HOs will be exchanged among students sitting side-by-side

Feedback & Review & Concept Check Questions (6-8 minutes) • To give Ss an opportunity to confirm the answers W/C and learn more about the form.

After Ss confirm the answers, one of the sentences will be studied in terms of form on the WB. While explaining about the structure time-line will be demonstrated. Where does he live? He lives in Brighton. Wh-q. + auxiliary + subject + infinite verb X ----xxx--------ı------xxx------ past now future Does Andy live with his parents? Is he living now? Is this past, present or future?

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To enable students put the different grammar structures into meaningful questions.

Four sets of jumped words will be presented on the HO(Straightforward Elem – Ss Bk, U 2C, pp 27, Grammar ex:2) Ss will be asked to put them in order to make a real questions, in pairs. Students will be elicited as pairs for each question and answers will be written on the board by that particular pair, one assisting, the other one writing on WB.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To give the Ss opportunity to use wh- questions by looking at the answers and encourage them to speak in front of the WC

T asks for WC to complete each question.

Presentation & Practice (3-5 minutes) • To give the Ss opportunity to use simple present in negative forms and concept check by asking opposite sentences

Emily does not live in the house. - Emily lives in her flat. Andy does not like to live alone. - He likes to live with his parents. '37 year-old-man does not live with his mother and father!'

role play / freer practice (10-15 minutes) • To give Ss a chance to review what they have learnt during the lesson.

HO with what, where, when, who, why questions along with extensions ( live? live with? live there? do there? work? work with?do there? go at the weekend? go with? go there? do there? will be given to Ss. Ss will work in groups to interview with each other. One student at each group will interview the interviewer in order to speak about the 3rd person. Ex: where does she work? If time permits Ss will also try to write mini-biography about their friends

Feedback (4-5 minutes) • To check if form is understood and Ss are able to speak more confidently than the beginning of the lesson.

Volunteers of three will be asked to demonstrate their interview, both with first and second persons, then with third persons Or depending on the timing, one or two mini-profiles can be read and corrected by WC if necessary
