Main Aims

  • To practice vocabulary for speculating about consequences in the context of mobile phone ban at work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice gist and detailed reading and listening in the context of email and intranet ban

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Casual WC discussion about how their weekend was and if they went online. Intro to the topic about how much time we spend online.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Focus on EX1. Slide projection. Ss work in pairs to answer the questions that are projected. Handouts are prepared to facilitate.

Reading (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss read the handouts and and answer the question asked at EX2. This is an individual activity which will be pair checked. Check the understanding for 'survival' and 'disruptive' Also introduce phoneme.

Listening (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss listen to text 2 times 1.14. and then 1.15 to make sure they understand the function of the highlighted words. Facilitation on slides and handouts. EX3-EX4. Both individual and pair work respectively.

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • Ss to practice speaking within the context

Divide class to A and B for a debate. Project the language used so far. Encourage them to use them. Each group comes up with 3 arguments, using the language of the lesson. Give enough time to prepare and speak.
