Town and country weekends
To provide gist reading practice using a text about Town and country weekends
To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Weekends routines
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
I will give students two different parts of two different songs. The first one is by Jamie Cullum, and The second is about Shilpa Shetty, and then I will ask them which song they like more.
Provide students with some words from the text which they may not know. At first i will elicit the information from them to see if they can figure out what these words stand for, and then check by using CCQS, and then use what we call drilling and ask students to repeat after me. Finally I will write the words for them in the board or use my laptop.
I will show students the picture of the singers and then ask them what the text is about - Then they will start reading the two introductions of the text. - I will divide students into two groups and ask each group to read the introductory part and give the general idea of the text
The students now will read for more details -They will answer the questions in the exercise 4 page 26 -I will ask students to check each other answers -I will prepare two different answer keys -I will ask them to share information with each other ' one student from Jamie's group talk with one student from Shilpa's group and ask each other questions in the same exercise'
-Ask students to write on a piece of paper about what they like to do in the weekend -Collect the papers, mix them up and give them to new students and ask each student to guess who is that person. Exercise 6 page 26
